Ever find your perfect pack is just a little too small? It sucks when you end up having to carry your tent in a shopping bag because your pack is overflowing, and wrestling everything into your bag in a disorganised mess is no fun.

Thankfully, my booster dry bag is here to save the day: it lets you boost your pack's volume by 20L at will!

Lash it over or under your pack like a foam mat to gain extra storage when you need it. This is ideal for prepping for that long section of your thru hike when you're overloaded with supplies, or adapting your 3-season pack for 4-season loads. Waterproof to over 20,000mm and made from tough DCF backpack fabric from the USA, the wide roll top opening at both ends makes it a breeze to rummage, pack, and unpack on the go and keeps things accessible mid-hike. It means that you never have to empty your gear out because that thing you need is trapped at the bottom of the dry bag :)

I used one of these during my LEJOG hike. When winter came and I suddenly needed to carry much more gear, I simply couldn't fit everything in my 50L backpack. Strapping this to the top meant I didn't need to buy a new pack and had all the space I needed, even when my sleeping bag pretty well filled the entire main compartment of my pack!

Handily, you can pack away your booster bag until you need it – at 92g it is incredibly lightweight for such a big, tough bag (it's made from backpack fabric after all). If you think 20L isn't much, think again – this bag has nearly as much volume as the main compartment of my 50L pack! Remember the literage on your pack will include the mesh outer pockets and the brain – the main compartment volume that is actually useful will be much less, so adding this is like doubling the volume of your pack, it makes a world of difference!

I make my booster dry bags from 2.92oz DCF, a very special fabric which is typically used in the best UL backpacks. It contains Dyneema® fiber – an incredibly strong fiber that is 15X stronger than steel, and contains 2.5X more Dyneema® than my normal 1oz dry bags. The 2.92oz variety of DCF has a 50D endurance woven part melted polyester face for extra tough abrasion resistance. On the whole, DCF gear is many times lighter, stronger, more waterproof and more repairable than pretty much all other fabrics. If you want the best, you just found it.

Like all manufacturers, we recommend protecting moisture sensitive items with a zip lock bag. Unsuitable for kayaking or water sports. Always have at least two lines of defence between your gear and the rain, so store items in this bag in additional dry bags just in case.
